What does Friday Harbor Boat Rentals offer?
We offer experienced boaters the opportunity to rent and captain your own boat. We also offer captained charters (Island Hopping Charters) aboard our 32' Nordic Tug.
Do I need boating experience to rent a boat?
Yes. You must have basic boating experience to rent a boat from FHBR. Your approval for a rental will be determined after a safety checklist and a brief interview regarding your experience. Safety is our biggest priority!
Do I need boating experience in the Puget Sound?
No, you do not have to have boating experience in Puget Sound. However, the Salish Sea poses many challenges that you will need to be familiar with and confident in maneuvering safely. These include, but are not limited to, heavy boat traffic, ferries, seaplanes, driftwood, crab/shrimp pots, kelp/debris, and kayakers. If you do not feel 100% confident in your boating abilities, consider a captained charter instead.
Do I need a Boater’s License?
No. You do NOT need a Boater’s License to rent a boat in Washington state. However, you WILL need to complete the Washington State Boating Program's “Motor Vessel Rental Safety Checklist,” which is a temporary Boating License. This must remain on the vessel for the entire rental. You will complete this at the dock.
How old do you have to be to rent a boat from FHBR?
23 years old with a valid driver’s license.
Do you require a deposit?
No, we don’t require a deposit. We do require a credit/debit card number to hold until the end of your rental. Rental charges will be applied upon your return and checkout completion. Additionally, we do require a deposit for the rental of our 9' RIB Dinghy.
Are there boundary limits? How far can I go?
Yes, our boats must stay within 25 miles of the Port of Friday Harbor. There will be a clear and precise map outlining the boundaries on each vessel.
How do I make a reservation?
Please call us at (360)317-5578 between the hours of 9:00am - 6:00 pm PDT (please leave a message if we aren't able to take your call) or e-mail us at [email protected] to inquire about availability. In order to confirm and discuss boating experience, you must contact us via phone.
What do I do if I need to cancel my reservation?
We have a seven day cancellation policy. If you cancel three days within your reservation you will be charged 25% of your reservation fee. If you cancel prior to three days before your reservation you will not be charged. If you cancel within 24 hours of your reservation you will be charged full price.
